What about the Sun acting up?

Earth Changes and Planet X web sites all over the internet point to increased
solar activity as a "sign" that something is happening. I have seen several sites
showing SOHO spacecraft images of solar activity and claiming that the
solar max of 2000 is over so how does NASA explain the still active Sun?

There is actually nothing to explain except why these Earth Changes and Planet X
sites keep making these false claims. They try to give the impression that after the
solar max the Sun immediately calms down and the continued activity is unusual.
That is simply not true. Our Sun goes through an 11 year solar cycle. The peak
year of solar activity is called the solar max however the Sun stays active for
3 to 4 years each cycle. The last 3 solar cycles have actually had a double peak
of activity where they seem to peak in 2 different years.
(this can be observed on the graphs below)

The following graph shows sunspot activity since 1986. Note in the last solar cycle that
the Sun was very active by September of 1988 (8809) and stayed very active through 1991
and didn't really reach a calm level until 1995. The solar max for this cycle was in 1989.

Also note that the current solar cycle is much calmer than the last one.

The graph below shows the last 5 solar cycles. The 2 previous cycles were more
active than the current cycle and the only cycle less active than the current
one was the solar max of 1968 to 1972.  The dishonest people claiming
"record levels" of solar activity don't mention this...

Also visible on the graph are the double peaks in several of the recent solar maxes.

Note the high spikes of activity in 1992 just as the last cycle was ending. Again, the
solar max for that cycle was in 1989.

This information is from the Solar Influences Data analysis Center
(SIDC) in Belgium and not NASA. You can read more about sun
spots and the solar cycle at their web site.

How about solar flares? Many of the sites claiming something is wrong
with the Sun point to the fascinating SOHO pictures of solar activity and
claim that solar flares are unusual or at record levels. Once again these are
false claims. We can see from the graph below that the level of solar flares
this solar max has been lower than the previous 2 cycles. Also note that
solar flare activity remains high for most of the solar cycle.

The above graphic from http://www.jollyfarmer.com/FlareHistory.jpg .

When we look at the history of the Sun and solar cycles we see that the
Sun is not unusually active, it is in the active part of the solar cycle and
less active than in previous cycles. There have not been record numbers
of sunspots or record breaking solar flares.  So why do these people continue
to claim that our Sun is "acting up" or "going bonkers"? As usual with
Planet X it is either sloppy research or more likely just dishonesty. These
people are getting desperate to find something that is a "sign" that Planet X
is inbound when in reality there is nothing there.
